Application Schedule
Standard residential program is three applications: spring (when soil temperatures hit the 50s, usually mid-late April depending on elevation), summer (slow-release, late June), and fall (early September — the most important application of the year for cool-season grass).
Why Fall Is the Most Important
Cool-season grass — what grows in Vermont and New Hampshire — does most of its root building in fall, not spring. A strong September application sets up the lawn for winter and gives you the best green-up the following spring. Most homeowners over-fertilize in spring and skip fall, which is exactly backwards.
Combined With Mowing
Fertilizing is most cost-effective combined with our mowing service — we can apply during a regular mowing visit at lower overhead than a standalone trip. Standalone fertilizing visits are also available for properties we don't mow.
